On Thursday, August 27th the Pennsylvania SPCA hosted a rally in support for the 2nd Chance Dogs – pit bulls that have been rescued from abuse and neglect by the Pennsylvania SPCA’s Humane Law Enforcement Officers or found as strays by Animal Control. As a result, (10) pit bulls were adopted by forever homes and (4) dogs went to foster care. The Pennsylvania SPCA also raised over $500 dollars in monetary donations and received numerous in-kind donations including much needed toys, blankets and supplies for the animals of the Pennsylvania SPCA. An additional (10) pit bulls were adopted over the weekend.
The Pennsylvania SPCA’s 2nd Chance Dogs is a new campaign to bring awareness and encourage adoption of rescued pit bulls. As the only organization actively investigating animal fighting and prosecuting animal abusers in the city of Philadelphia, the Pennsylvania SPCA is encouraging animal activist to become involved in their efforts to save the lives of thousands of animals. The 2nd Chance Dogs come from situations involving severe neglect, starvation, cruelty, and from illegal dog fighting operations. Currently, over 80% of the Pennsylvania SPCA’s canine population in Philadelphia is made up of pit bulls and pit bull mixes.
