Want to take action that will affect real change for victims of dog fighting in Philadelphia?
Everyone deserves a second chance – no one deserves it more than innocent victims of animal abuse. Every day in our city, thousands of animals are brutalized by dog fighting, but little public attention is given to their rescue and recovery. Since "redemption" and "rehabilitation" have recently become buzzwords in Philadelphia with the announcement of Michael Vick's signing by the Philadelphia Eagles, now is the time for compassionate citizens to make a bold statement by giving the victims of animal abusers a second chance, too. Support the 2nd Chance Dogs of the Pennsylvania SPCA today by donating to their rescue, care, and placement into loving homes.
Who are the 2nd Chance Dogs?

The 2nd Chance Dogs of the Pennsylvania SPCA are pit bulls rescued from abuse and neglect by our Humane Law Enforcement Officers or found as strays by our Animal Control Officers. They come from situations involving severe neglect, starvation, cruelty, and from illegal dog fighting operations. They arrive weak, tormented and helpless. Pit bulls are the most vulnerable of dog populations because they have been vilified by the media, subject to Breed Specific Legislation in many states, and are often seen as not worthy of love. The care they receive at the Pennsylvania SPCA is often the first time they ever receive veterinary care, the first time they are touched by a loving hand, and the first time they can sleep safely out of reach of their abusers. Once given a second chance, these dogs learn to run and play and forget their past abuses. They make loyal and loving companions to their adopters. Doesn't every dog deserve a second chance?

Clementine was found lying in a yard in North Philadelphia, open wounds on her legs and face with no food or water in the yard. When our humane officer called to her, she could wag her tail but was too weak to stand up. After clinical treatment and foster care, she is now waiting to be adopted. She's a loving and kind little dog.

Google was rescued during a dog fighting investigation. The only food in the yard was a bowl of moldy rice and beans meant to feed all the dogs. The dogs were surrendered to our humane officer. Despite being horrifically neglected, Google is a gregarious and happy dog who now needs a loving home.

David was kept in a small crate with another dog for most of his life. He was never walked. Never given proper food or veterinary care. His whole world was just that crate. That may be why he is so small—he’s full-grown but only weighs 20 lbs. David is timid but gentle and loves his sister Virginia who is also available for adoption.
