Reduced adoption fee event will help Philadelphia area homeless cats find forever homes Saturday, October 3 & Sunday, October 4

The Pennsylvania SPCA is teaming up with the BISSELL Pet Foundation (BPF) to reduce adoption fees and find forever homes for cats during this weekend’s Empty the Shelters event. During Empty the Shelters this Saturday, October 3 & Sunday, October 4, from 10am-5pm, BPF will sponsor the adoption fees of all cats at the shelter so adopters pay just $25.

All animals included in the Empty the Shelters promotion will be microchipped and spayed/neutered to prevent further pet homelessness.

Those looking to add a new feline family member will be invited one family at a time into the Pennsylvania SPCA’s Erie Avenue headquarters to meet cats in search of new homes. All adopters will be asked to fill out the Pennsylvania SPCA’s adoption application on their mobile phones prior to entering the building and invited inside in the order they arrived. For those unable to use their mobile phones, paper applications will be available. Once a match is made, the remainder of the process will take place outside before the new family can head home “furever.”

Increased safety precautions, including social distancing and required face coverings for all those entering the building will be put into place to ensure the safety of staff and potential adopters. Those filling out paper applications will be asked to wear gloves.

The PSPCA will be adhering to our standard adoption requirements for the event and adopters are encouraged to review those requirements prior to the event by visiting For more information about Empty the Shelters, please visit
