Adoption Process and Fees

What to bring: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all adoptions are done by appointment only.

  • Photo Identification
  • Proof of Address (if current address is different than on ID)
  • Everyone who lives in the home (especially children)
  • If adopting a dog, bring any dogs currently living in the home for a meet. You must bring proof of their up-to-date rabies and distemper vaccinations.

Adoption fees:

We accept cash, Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover cards. (Tax is not included in the fees below.)

  • Kittens: $125
  • Good Samaritan Kittens (fancy breeds, long-haired): $150
  • Cats: $60
  • Good Samaritan Cats: $125
  • Puppies: $450
  • Dogs: $150
  • Good Samaritan Dogs (desirable breed): $300
  • Shelter Favorite Dogs (Chosen as a favorite due to length of stay, health or behavioral reasons): $75

Benefits of adopting from the Pennsylvania SPCA:

  • Spay or neuter surgery
  • Microchip with lifetime registration
  • Deworming
  • Age-appropriate vaccines
    • Dogs: Distemper, Hepatitis, Parainfluenza, and Parvovirus, Bordetella plus first dose of canine influenza
    • Cats: Panleukopenia, Rhinotracheitis, and calici (for kittens)
  • Rabies vaccines (for animals 3 months & older)
  • Flea & tick prevention
  • Medical evaluation
  • Behavior evaluation
  • Wellness care from our medical staff for 48 hours post-adoption
  • Behavior phone consults with our Behavior & Training team
  • Discounts on training classes and individual sessions
  • The PSPCA will always take the animal back into our care if you are no longer able to keep them
