Late one night in the heat of the summer months, our Humane Law Enforcement team executed a search warrant at a property in Philadelphia, suspecting possible dogfighting.
There, tied on heavy tow chains in the back yard were Baby Ruth and Twix.
Found inside the residence was equipment used to train dogs to fight like weighted vests and break sticks. The possession of that animal fighting paraphernalia alone carried misdemeanor animal cruelty charges.
We immediately seized the dogs with a search warrant and took them to our Erie Avenue headquarters for medical treatment and care. When they arrived, it was nearly midnight, but our veterinary staff was there, at the ready, to help.
For dogs like Twix and Baby Ruth a journey to a forever home begins on the day of rescue. But that journey can span many months, or sometimes even years.
